For most travelers, the choice comes down to luggage and hotel location. Take the AREX all-stop train if cost and traffic-free travel matter most, but expect a transfer at Seoul Station to Line 4. Choose an AREX Express seat if you value a nonstop airport-to-Seoul Station ride enough to pay more; it still does not reach Myeongdong directly. Take bus 6001 or 6015 when a listed stop is close to your hotel and you want to avoid the rail transfer. Choose 6701 only after checking that its Myeongdong hotel-area stop—not Myeongdong Station—fits your address. A taxi is the simplest option for several people, heavy bags, or an awkward arrival hour, but the metered fare, toll, and possible night surcharge make the total variable.
Before leaving arrivals, check the live timetable and map your final stop to the hotel. A one-seat bus is not useful if it leaves you with a difficult walk, while the cheapest train may be poor value if you cannot handle bags at Seoul Station.
Fast Decision
| Your situation | Best starting choice | Main reason to reconsider |
|---|---|---|
| Light luggage; lowest public-transport cost matters | AREX all-stop + Line 4 | Seoul Station transfer and stairs/lifts with bags |
| You want a reserved seat and nonstop ride to Seoul Station | AREX Express + Line 4 | Separate Express ticket plus a separate subway ride |
| Hotel is close to a 6001 or 6015 stop | Direct airport bus | Road delays and a possible walk from the stop |
| Hotel is near Lotte Hotel, Aloft Seoul Myeongdong, or Le Méridien Seoul Myeongdong | 6701 | It does not serve Myeongdong subway station |
| Arrival is after daytime rail/bus service | N6701 or taxi | N6701 stops near Myeongdong, not at Myeongdong Station |
| Family/group, several bags, or minimal handling wanted | Taxi | Meter, toll, night surcharge, and vehicle capacity |
The useful question is: “Which stop leaves the easiest final 500 metres?” Compare the hotel with the named bus stops and Myeongdong Station in a Korean map app.
AREX to Seoul Station, Then Line 4
Both airport rail stations are in the B1 Transportation Center at their respective terminals. AREX gives you two choices to Seoul Station:
- Express Train: nonstop, reserved seating, and a separate ticket. The current adult fare is ₩13,000 and the child fare is ₩9,500. The published rail time is 43 minutes from Terminal 1 or 51 minutes from Terminal 2 to Seoul Station.
- All-stop train: cheaper and integrated with the metropolitan transit system. The adult transit-card fare to Seoul Station is ₩4,750 from Terminal 1 or ₩5,350 from Terminal 2. A single-use card costs ₩100 more and requires a refundable ₩500 deposit.
Those are airport-to-Seoul Station fares, not full totals to Myeongdong. Distance charging applies on the subway, and the Express fare excludes Line 4.
Step by step
- Follow Airport Railroad / AREX signs from arrivals to the B1 Transportation Center.
- For the Express, buy the separate reserved-seat ticket online, in the AREX app, or at an airport ticket machine. A paid online ticket provides a QR code for the gate. For the all-stop train, use a topped-up transportation card or buy a single-use card at the station machine.
- Ride to Seoul Station. The Express runs nonstop; the all-stop train calls at intermediate stations.
- At Seoul Station, follow signs for Subway Line 4, not the KTX platforms or Line 1. This interchange includes corridors and level changes, so allow extra effort with large suitcases.
- Take Line 4 in the Jinjeop-bound/northbound direction. The first stop is Hoehyeon; Myeongdong is the second stop from Seoul Station, after Hoehyeon.
- At Myeongdong, check the correct exit for your hotel before going through the final passage. Do not assume the nearest numbered exit has a lift.
Choose the all-stop train if you can manage your bags and want the lowest rail fare. Pay for the Express only when its reserved seat and nonstop run to Seoul Station justify the higher price. Skip either rail option if Seoul Station’s level changes will be difficult or a direct bus stop is much closer to your hotel. The Express still requires a separate subway ride to Myeongdong.
Daytime Airport Buses: 6001, 6015, and 6701
A bus can remove the Seoul Station transfer. It does not guarantee door-to-door service: the useful route is the one whose stop matches your hotel side of Myeongdong.
| Route | Adult / child fare | Incheon Airport boarding | Useful Myeongdong-area stops |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6001 | ₩17,000 / ₩12,000 | T1 Level 1, stop 5; T2 Transportation Center B1, stop 29 | Myeongdong Station; Korea Bank/Splaisir Myeongdong |
| 6015 | ₩17,000 / ₩12,000 | T1 Level 1, stop 5; T2 Transportation Center B1, stop 28 | Lotte Hotel/Ibis Myeongdong; Royal Hotel/Euljiro 1-ga; Myeongdong Station |
| 6701 | ₩18,000 / ₩12,000 | T1 Level 1, stop 3; T2 Transportation Center B1, stop 18 | Euljiro 1-ga/Grand Lotte Seoul; Myeongdong near Aloft Seoul and Le Méridien |
The airport ticket rule people miss
Do not assume every airport bus accepts onboard cash, T-money, or a credit card. Direction matters.
For 6001 and 6015 from Incheon Airport into Seoul, buy a ticket at an airport counter or machine before boarding. In the reverse direction, from Seoul to the airport, the operator accepts onboard cash or a qualifying transportation card; ordinary credit cards, the Climate Card, and Discover Seoul Pass are not accepted onboard.
For 6701 from the airport, K Airport Limousine also requires a reservation ticket from a booth or machine, despite accepting cards in other contexts. Buy first, then go to the bay; follow same-day airport signage if instructions change.
Route 6001: best for a Myeongdong Station stop
6001 provides a one-seat ride to Myeongdong Station and the Korea Bank/Splaisir side.
Route 6015: best for several central hotel stops
6015 serves Myeongdong Station, Lotte Hotel/Ibis Myeongdong, and Royal Hotel/Euljiro 1-ga. Confirm the live stop order.
Choose 6001 or 6015 when one of its named stops leaves an easy walk to your hotel and fewer transfers matter more than road-delay risk. Skip both when the final walk is awkward or predictable timing matters more.
The official airport summary and detailed 6015 timetable currently disagree by several minutes on the first departure. This guide therefore does not publish a precise first-bus time. Check the airport or operator timetable after landing.
Route 6701: useful for the hotel area, not Myeongdong Station
6701 serves Euljiro 1-ga/Grand Lotte Seoul and the Aloft/Le Méridien Myeongdong area, but not Myeongdong subway station. The published interval is 25–35 minutes; airport departures span 05:35–22:25 at T1 and 05:15–22:05 at T2. Conditions can change service.
Choose 6701 only when your accommodation is close to one of those hotel-area stops and the live timetable suits your arrival. Skip it if you need the south side around Myeongdong Station or the hotel map shows a long or difficult walk.
Bus Baggage Limits
Airport buses usually reduce luggage handling because bags go in the lower hold, but the allowance is not unlimited.
For 6001 and 6015, each paid passenger may carry two bags under 28 inches and 20 kg each, or one bag over 28 inches, free. Excess baggage costs 50% of the fare per item; the current FAQ states ₩8,000. K Airport Limousine allows two items totaling up to 40 kg, but warns that one item over 20 kg or 50 × 40 × 20 cm may be refused.
Confirm directly if you have sports equipment, oversized cases, or unusually heavy baggage; the rules differ and unsafe packing may be refused.
Late-Night Fallback: N6701
N6701 is the most relevant official late-night public-transport fallback near Myeongdong, but it is not a direct bus to Myeongdong Station. Its central stops include Seoul Station/Sungnyemun and Euljiro 1-ga/Lotte Hotel Seoul before continuing to Dongdaemun Design Plaza. Depending on your hotel, you may still need to walk or take a short taxi.
The fare is ₩18,000 adult / ₩12,000 child. Board at T1 stop 3B or T2 B1 stop 18. Departures are 23:50, 00:40, 01:40, 03:45, and 04:40 from T1, and 23:30, 00:20, 01:20, 03:25, and 04:20 from T2. Buy at a booth or machine, or through Tmoney GO where available.
Judge the schedule by terminal-ready time, not aircraft landing time. Immigration, baggage claim, and ticketing take time. Recheck on the day; the long timetable gap can make a taxi more practical.
Use N6701 only when a listed central stop is manageable for your hotel and the next departure is reasonably timed. Otherwise, the final walk or long wait can erase its advantage.
Taxi: Simplest, but the Total Varies
Use only a designated airport taxi stand and decline unsolicited rides inside the terminal. For standard Seoul taxis, the airport lists T1 stands 5C, 6C, and 6D and T2 stand 7C. International taxis use T1 stand 4C and T2 stand 3C.
A standard Seoul taxi uses the meter: ₩4,800 for the first 1.6 km, then distance or low-speed time charges. Tolls are extra at actual cost. Night surcharges are 20% from 22:00–23:00, 40% from 23:00–02:00, and 20% from 02:00–04:00. No city-boundary surcharge applies between the airport and Seoul.
There is no dependable standard-taxi total for every hotel: traffic, route, tolls, time, and address change it. Use the meter unless booking an approved fixed-fare service. International taxis publish a Jung-gu zone fare of ₩85,000 for a sedan or ₩120,000 for an SUV/van/deluxe vehicle; that is not a standard-taxi estimate.
Taxi makes sense when several travelers can share the cost, mobility is limited, or public transport is impractical. Solo budget travelers who can handle rail should usually skip it. Confirm vehicle capacity for a large group and its bags.
FAQ
Is there a direct train from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong?
No. Both AREX services reach Seoul Station. Transfer there to Line 4 toward Jinjeop; Myeongdong is the second stop, after Hoehyeon.
Which bus goes directly to Myeongdong Station?
Routes 6001 and 6015 list Myeongdong Station. Route 6015 also serves several northern Myeongdong hotel-area stops. Check your hotel against the live route before buying a ticket.
Can I tap T-money when boarding at Incheon Airport?
Do not assume so. For downtown-bound 6001/6015 and 6701, the operators direct airport passengers to obtain a ticket from a counter or machine before boarding. Payment practices differ by operator and direction.
What should I take after midnight?
Check N6701 first if Euljiro 1-ga/Lotte Hotel Seoul or Seoul Station works as a handoff point. It does not serve Myeongdong Station and operates only at specific times. Otherwise, use a designated taxi stand.
How current are these fares and stops?
The route, fare, boarding, and ticket details here were checked against official airport, railway, bus-operator, and Seoul transport pages on 2026-09-28. Transport details can change without notice. Recheck the official timetable and boarding display on your travel date, especially for late-night service and the first or last bus.

Final Verdict
Match the route to your hotel, not to a generic “fastest” label: rail wins on cost and traffic independence, a correctly matched bus wins on luggage handling, and a designated taxi is the clean fallback when time, mobility, or baggage makes public transport impractical.
