Incheon Airport to Hongdae (2026): AREX All-Stop, Bus 6002 or Taxi?

The AREX All-Stop Train is the best default from Incheon Airport to Hongdae for most travelers. It runs directly to Hongik University Station, while the AREX Express skips Hongdae and continues to Seoul Station. Choose Bus 6002 instead if your hotel is near its Hapjeong, Seogyo-dong, or Hongik University stop and you want easier luggage handling. Check the N6002 night bus before paying for a taxi after regular trains stop.

Do not choose by the words “Express” or “Hongdae” alone. Check your terminal, the last departure you can realistically catch after immigration and baggage claim, and the distance from the station or bus stop to your accommodation.

Fast decision
– Most travelers: AREX All-Stop Train to Hongik University Station.
– Large bags or a hotel near a 6002 stop: Bus 6002.
– Late-night arrival: Check N6002 first, then compare its wait with a taxi.
– Family or group with several suitcases: Compare one taxi with the total bus cost and the final walk.
– Do not take by mistake: AREX Express does not stop at Hongik University Station.

Quick comparison

Option Transfers to Hongdae Best for Main drawback
AREX All-Stop None to Hongik University Station Most solo travelers and couples The station-to-hotel walk can still be long
Bus 6002 None to several Hongdae-area stops Heavy luggage and hotels near a stop Traffic and a stop that may not suit your hotel
N6002 night bus None to Hongik University Arrivals after regular services wind down Limited departures; you may wait
Taxi Door to door Groups, heavy bags, or the simplest finish Highest cost; traffic and toll apply

Official route and timetable pages change. The route details below were checked on September 27, 2026; verify your travel-day departure after you land.

Option 1: Take the AREX All-Stop Train for the simplest default

Follow signs for Airport Railroad / AREX to the Transportation Center on Basement 1 at either terminal. You need the All-Stop Train, not the Express Train.

The official Incheon Airport route map places Hongik University Station on the All-Stop line before Gongdeok and Seoul Station. It shows about 58 minutes from Terminal 2 to Hongik University Station. Terminal 1 is six minutes closer on that route map. Actual waiting and walking time must be added.

Use AREX All-Stop if

  • you are traveling alone or as a couple with manageable luggage;
  • your accommodation is close to the Hongik University Station complex;
  • predictable rail travel matters more than a curbside hotel-area stop; or
  • you plan to continue by Seoul Subway Line 2 or the Gyeongui–Jungang Line.

Skip AREX All-Stop if

  • your hotel is a difficult walk from the station with large bags;
  • stairs, long corridors, or station navigation are a problem; or
  • you will arrive too late to catch the final useful train after immigration and baggage claim.

The mistake to avoid: AREX Express

The Express Train runs nonstop between Incheon Airport and Seoul Station. It does not stop at Hongik University Station. Paying extra for the Express means passing Hongdae, reaching Seoul Station, and then traveling back.

Option 2: Take Bus 6002 when the stop fits your hotel

Bus 6002 serves several useful Hongdae-area points on its airport-to-city route, including Hapjeong Station, Seogyo-dong, and Hongik University. The bus can reduce luggage handling, but only if one of those stops is genuinely closer to your accommodation.

The operator lists the adult fare as KRW 17,000 and the child fare as KRW 12,000. At Terminal 2, the current city-bound page lists B1, Platform 30 and requires passengers to buy a ticket before boarding. Procedures and platforms can change, so use the operator page or airport information desk on arrival rather than an old screenshot.

From July 1, 2026, the airport-to-city drop-off for routes 6002 and N6002 at Hongik University moved from the center lane to a curbside stop. The airport-bound boarding stop did not move. This distinction matters on your return trip.

Use Bus 6002 if

  • your hotel is near Hapjeong, Seogyo-dong, Hongik University, or another listed stop;
  • you have a large suitcase and want fewer station corridors;
  • you are traveling with children or a traveler with limited mobility; or
  • a curbside stop is more useful than Hongik University Station.

Skip Bus 6002 if

  • your accommodation is actually closer to a convenient AREX station exit;
  • traffic risk matters more than luggage convenience; or
  • you have not checked which 6002 stop serves your side of Hongdae.

“Hongdae” covers more than one block. A hotel near Yeonnam-dong, Hapjeong, Seogyo-dong, or Sinchon can produce a different best answer. Put the hotel address into a Korean navigation app and compare the distance from the station and bus stop before boarding.

Late-night arrival: check N6002 before assuming taxi

Hongdae has a direct official night-bus option. N6002 runs from Terminal 2 through Terminal 1 to Hongik University, then continues toward central and eastern Seoul.

Incheon Airport currently estimates about 65 minutes from Terminal 2 and 45 minutes from Terminal 1 to Hongdae. The adult fare is KRW 17,000; the operator lists a KRW 10,000 child fare. Departures are limited, and city-bound passengers must buy a ticket before boarding. Official pages currently disagree on the Terminal 2 platform number, so use the live departure board or airport information desk rather than a saved platform number.

A night bus is not automatically better than a taxi. Compare the next departure after baggage claim, the distance from the Hongik University stop to your accommodation, and whether one taxi is reasonable for your group and luggage. Use the official taxi rank if the wait or hotel transfer is poor.

Option 3: Take a taxi for the lowest-friction finish

Use the official taxi rank outside the arrivals hall. Keep your hotel name, Korean address, and phone number ready. Seoul’s official airport guidance says the Incheon Airport Expressway toll is added to the metered fare; it currently lists that toll as KRW 7,900. Traffic, vehicle class, time, and the exact Hongdae address affect the total.

A taxi makes the most sense when:

  • three or four travelers can share the cost;
  • the group has several large suitcases;
  • your accommodation is far from a useful train exit or bus stop;
  • a late flight leaves a poor N6002 connection; or
  • mobility needs make station or stop transfers impractical.

Follow airport signs to the official taxi stand and confirm the vehicle type before departure.

Step-by-step arrival plan

  1. Before landing: Save the hotel’s Korean address and note whether it is nearest Hongik University Station, Hapjeong, Seogyo-dong, or the Hongik University bus stop.
  2. After baggage claim: Check live train and bus departures. Do not plan from scheduled landing time alone.
  3. For AREX: Follow Airport Railroad signs to B1 and enter the All-Stop area.
  4. For Bus 6002 or N6002: Confirm the current platform, buy the required ticket, and show staff your intended stop if unsure.
  5. Before getting off: Open your navigation app and check the final walk, not just the district name.
  6. If the final walk is poor: Use a short taxi from the station or choose a door-to-door airport taxi instead.

Common mistakes

  • Taking AREX Express to Seoul Station for a Hongdae hotel. The All-Stop Train serves Hongik University Station directly.
  • Treating Hongdae as one address. Yeonnam-dong, Hapjeong, Seogyo-dong, and Sinchon can favor different stops.
  • Using flight arrival time as the transport decision time. Immigration and baggage collection can remove the last useful departure.
  • Assuming taxi is the only overnight choice. N6002 serves Hongdae, but its limited timetable must suit your actual exit time.
  • Using the city-bound stop for the airport return. The July 2026 Hongdae relocation affected the downtown-bound drop-off; the airport-bound boarding stop remained in the center lane.

Final verdict

Take the AREX All-Stop Train unless luggage, hotel location, or arrival time gives you a concrete reason not to. Choose Bus 6002 when its stop improves the hotel transfer, and check N6002 after regular service ends.
